AHDB is looking for beef farmers with suitable units to help in their initiative to develop feed efficiency in the production of Beef cattle.
£1.75 million is to be invested by Defra and AHDB in this 4 year project which aims to improve the selection of cattle which consume less than the breed average to achieve the same rate of daily live weight gain. Suckler bred and dairy cross beef cattle will be put into these units over a 14 week period. They will be put into groups and fed a defined mixed ration and weighed at regular intervals.
SRUC and AHDB are keen to hear from farmers with suitable units who are keen to take part. Interested farmers must be able to demonstrate a high level of management, a willingness to show visitors around the unit and to promote the project.
