We are heading into the New Year in a situation not seen for a number of years where the demand for cattle is exceeding supply. There are a number of reasons for this; reduced suckler cow numbers, the drought of 2 years ago & most importantly an increased demand for beef. Some retailers are reporting demand up by 5%. The current buoyant price is likely to remain for January & February but anything over £4 per kg could meet market resistance. The recent Brexit deal has eased nerves in the lamb market & that is likely to continue to be strong over the next couple of months. A happy & prosperous New Year
